True repentance shows in progressive change of behaviour from sin to righteousness.
Sometimes it may be accompanied with restitution.
Recall the story of Zaccheus, the tax collector. As soon as he met Christ he promised to return four-fold of what he stole. This was an exponential restoration.
Indeed it was a sincere move that revealed his spiritual transformation. He became a new man and he did not need any coercion to do the needful. He simply yielded to the voice or perhaps prompting of the Holy Spirit.
He was seriously touched by his new identity, due to his genuine encounter with Jesus Christ.
Beloved brethren kindly note that glorying in sin is not grace nor is it a virtue.
The bible encourages believers to experience godly sorrow, as part of the new life in Christ.
It is a new identity in Christ as Lord. Hence all aspects of the old order need to be expunged with passion and power of the Holy Spirit.
Certainly it may seem difficult. However God is always at work to get this great work done and done well.
On a final note, beloved in Christ be ashamed of sin enough to reject it. Run away from sin.
Furthermore continue to pray against every area of temptation, notably idolatry, immorality, perversion, wickedness, alcoholism, pride, hatred, lying and stealing.
Eventually every root of sin will die, as the word of God fills the heart. Be encouraged, because God makes all things beautiful in His time. His eyes are on the sparrow.
He will never leave you nor forsake you.
