Desperate for a kind word

Adeze Ojukwu

Kind words are very carminative and comforting.

Many people across the world are desperately searching for soul-lifting words, especially due to the anxiety and trepidation from COVID-19.

The attendant economic hardship, health crises, social instability and political-cum- security crises escalating across several regions, life has become very unbearable for many.

This is clearly evident from hospital records, police reports and media accounts, as well as increasing incidences of depression and suicide, especially among youths.

Several marriages have hit the rocks, while many children and women are inundated by violence, perpetuated by family members.

For many, this year is nothing less than a perfect storm, with no end in sight.
However, cheerful words can provide some relief, amidst these difficulties.
Little sounds of soft expressions can turn around the dread, especially when offered from a gentle heart.

A disheartened thirsts for genuine love, particularly if it springs from a compassionate friend or family.
For the believer, Christ remains, the pinnacle of hope to all who look to him for peace and solution from evil and its harbingers.

It is delightful, that the bible is replete with scriptures that can soothe every distraught nerve and heal every hurt.

Isaiah 50:4 ‘The Lord GOD has given Me The tongue of the learned, That I should know how to speak A word in season to him who is weary. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to hear as the learned.’

2 Chronicles 10:7 ‘And they spoke to him, saying, “If you are kind to these people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be your servants forever.”’

Ps 119:50 ‘This is my comfort in my affliction, For Your word has given me life.’
Zechariah 1:13-17 ‘And the LORD answered the angel who talked to me, with good and comforting words. So the angel who spoke with me said to me, “Proclaim, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts: “I am zealous for Jerusalem And for Zion with great zeal. I am exceedingly angry with the nations at ease; For I was a little angry, And they helped—but with evil intent.”‘Therefore thus says the LORD: “I am returning to Jerusalem with mercy; My house shall be built in it,” says the LORD of hosts, “And a surveyor’s line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem.”’ “Again proclaim, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts: “My cities shall again spread out through prosperity; The LORD will again comfort Zion, And will again choose Jerusalem.” ’ ”

1Thessalonians 4:18 ‘Therefore comfort one another with these words.’

2 Thessalonians 4:16-17 ‘Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.

Beloved in Christ may these anointed words comfort and encourage you, because Almighty God is faithful to honour his word.

‘He is watching over his words to perform.’

Shalom
